FAQ

Do I still need a lawyer if I have a divorce coach?

Yes. You will need an attorney licensed to practice law in the state in which you are seeking a divorce in order to effectuate the process and get a final judgment.

An attorney is expensive, why should I also pay for a divorce coach?

Attorney fees are costly. Each hour an attorney spends helping you to get organized, helping to answer questions about what is best for your particular needs, and providing emotional support, the bills add up. While these are necessary steps in the process, a lawyer's time can be spent in more effective ways. A divorce coach's rates are much lower so a client is able to accomplish a great deal for considerably less, and usually at more than half the rate of an attorney. Additionally, a divorce coach is specifically trained in these areas, whereas an attorney may not be. The result of utilizing a divorce coach is a much more cost effective and efficient process.

What is the difference between divorce coaching and therapy?

Therapy involves delving into the past with a client to discover why certain outcomes occur in order to heal a situation. Therapy also deals in diagnosis and treatment of mental illness. While therapy is sometimes necessary for an individual going through a divorce, it is not always needed.

Divorce coaching is future focused and goal oriented. The process is time specific and highly effective in dealing with the obstacles that often arise in a divorce which may derail an individual from achieving their goals. Certified divorce coaches are trained and skilled in the specific area of divorce and managing the process.

What is the average length of a divorce coaching relationship?

The length of the divorce coach relationship can vary depending on the specific needs of the client and at what stage of the divorce process the client engaged the coach.

Given the varying types of situations, the divorce coaching relationship can range anywhere from three months to over a year.

How do you charge for your services?

Generally, sessions are billed at an hourly rate, and Myra will work with each client to design a program that is best suited to their needs. Single sessions and packages are available, as well as 24 hour support to all clients engaged in the program.

Will you accompany me to meet with my attorney?

Yes, occasionally Myra will join the client in attorney meetings if that best serves the client's situation.

How do I know if divorce coaching makes sense for me?

If you are ready to move forward but are not sure which direction to head, divorce coaching is right for you. If you are ready to focus on what is best for yourself and for your family, and not on your spouse's behavior, divorce coaching makes sense for you.

What should I look for in a divorce coach?

Divorce coaches are not geographically bound to the state in which they reside and therefore it is not required that the client and coach live in the same state. However, only divorce coaches who have attained certification possess the training and skill required by the CDC Certified Divorce Coach Training Program, and must meet the rigorous standards established by the CDC Board of Standards and the Divorce Coach Ethics and Professional Responsibility guidelines.
